Description
Some marriages re made in heaven. Some are not. This book is about those in the latter category which have come to the writer's attention to be more precise, this book is about women who came for help because of marital crises which were severe enough to endanger the harmony and stability of the husband-wife unit. It is therefore a book about women and, particularly about their relationships with the men in their lives. It intends to bring out the all-too-human frailties in all-too-human settings which combine to confront and threaten to put asunder what God hath joined together.

The writer attempted to get an idea of how endangered the institutions of marriage is by the rate of marital break-up in the society. But, as in figures for suicide by Filipinos, the figures given for marital break-up are seldom reliable. The absence of divorce means the absence of records to document with finality the number of of such failures. People from the upper classes who wish to terminate their marriages do manage to obtain their divorces abroad; those from the middle class would tend to give ambiguous tentative statements about stability or instability of their unions. The middle class are the most self-conscious about their morals and equate such statements with either success or failure. The lower economic class move with greater ease from one conjugal liaison to another without benefit of judge or clergy. Furthermore, there are examples in the middle and upper classes of marriages where one spouse has been abroad for over five years with little or no communication and yet the spouse remaining in the Philippines staunchly resists the idea that, de facto, there is no marriage. And how about those people who are physically together only because they find no culturally and psychologically acceptable ways to.
