In 1981 the Thirty=fourth World Health Assembly adopted the Global Strategy for Health for All by the Year 2000, the key to which had been declared, at Alma- Ata in 1978, the Technical Discussions considered the question of health systems support for primary health care, in order to achieve a better understanding of the concepts involved and the changes needed in approaches of health problems and in health systems throughout the world. This publication presents the ideas and experiences reviewed at the Technical Discussions, with a view to stimulating further practical developments and exchanges of experience.
